Restoration diary

As one of RRRG's electrical officers I will write about my specialist field as well as general reports of work on site.

Work party report 1st October 2023

Work party report 1st October 2023

Dave Rolfe, Mark Burrows, Carl and Sofy Looker, Jay Hirst and I were on site today. Mark was sorting out the shims for when the ETH generator is fitted into Repulse, then removed the elbows from the broken airpipes in both cabs, to allow more room for the repairs. Dave carried on sorting out the stuck radiator louvres, and assisting Mark with the air pipes. Carl and Sofy cleaned up the dust and debris after the latest lot of welding, then undercoated areas in post-welding red oxide opposite the electrical cubicle. Jay helped Carl and Sofy with the cleaning, then did some hoovering behind the opening hatches underneath the filter frames. I refitted the upper panel below the driver's side droplight, then got the tall, thin, shaped corner panel that covers vertical airpipes and conduits behind the driver's seat from store for test-fitting. It had become slighly distorted, so was straightened, washed and held in place to make sure it fitted properly. Satisfied it did, it was screwed into place. The two pics are Carl's, showing before and after undercoating.
