Following external restoration 50030 is seen on display in the yard at Rowsley during the 2005 Peak Rail diesel gala, on the afternoon of 5th April 2005.

50030 is seen very soon after arrival at Peak Rail on 5th October 2002. Photo: Steve Townend. The external condition of both locomotives after ten years' storage was frankly terrible and we agreed with Peak Rail that sorting this out and presenting a better external image would be our first priority.

More bodywork restoration on 50030 from 26th October 2003. We were blessed with a mild autumn meaning we could really crack on. Notice the cab side rot on 50030; a feature of many English Electric locomotives caused by drainage channels from the cab interior becoming blocked over the years. Photo: Paul Taylor.

The lighter shade of NSE blue on 50030 had worn thinner than the darker shade on 50029 and as such Repulse was the first to be tackled cosmetically. In the words of Rolf Harris, "Can you guess what it is yet?" 26th October 2003, photo by Paul Taylor. Notice the roof panels in the foreground which are the remains of 50043 Eagle, kindly donated to us by the last owner of Eagle, Paul Spracklen.

14th December 2003 and 50030 is really coming on. RRRG shareholders voted for large logo, a classic livery for the 50s, and replica nameplates were obtained and fitted. Photo by Paul Taylor.

The finishing touches just needed applying by 29th August 2004 when RRRG member Neil Favell took this shot of 50030. Notice the cab side rot visible in earlier photos has been repaired.

The finishing touch that made us most proud. RRRG member Andy Coward kindly sponsored the casting of replica nameplates and ship's crests to complete the turnout of 50030 (which never carried crests in BR service). 29th August 2004. Photo: Neil Favell

On public display for the first time in 12 years or more, 50030 starred at the Peak Rail diesel gala on 14th September 2004. We received many favourable comments including "fresh out of Doncaster works!" and "Which train is she hauling?" (this latter question apparently in all seriousness!) A car battery provided power for the front headlight which was recovered from a scrap Class 56. Photo: Neil Favell.

Here 50030 Repulse is seen on the 16th September 2007 back in the sidings at Rowsley following the diesel gala. The ex-50008 power unit can be seen at the side of locomotive under the tarpaulin. To the left of the image is mark 1 BG 80777 before restoration - this coach was originally purchased for RRRG use but diverted to Peak Rail whose claimed need was greater at the time.

The other side view of 50030 on 8th May 2010. Note that some repainting work was done on the cab front as outside storage had caused the 2005 coats of paint to fade.
