Work party report 23rd July 2023

Dave Rolfe, Mark Burrows, Richard Wade, Jay Hirst and I were on site today. After barring round the power unit and oiling the turbos, Dave and Mark began investigating the broken air pipes I'd discovered under the floor in No.1 cab, finding virtually all those that dive through the plating under the cab floor had corroded away, on both the driver's and secondman's sides. They then looked at No.2 cab and found the same damage. Mark hoovered up as much of the debris as he could, which revealed significant corrosion around where the airpipes go down through the steel. This will require some cutting and welding in of new plating, and making new joints for the air pipes.

Dave and Richard tested the air vales we need for the brake frame, with both air and electrical inputs, and found we have enough that work for Repulse, with another five that failled to operate, which requires further investigation. Jay assisted me on infrastructure jobs today, sorting out of various items, including a box full of Imperial spanners I'd been given after the death of the owner. Dave also began fabricating a new section of conduit to replace a broken section Mark discovered under the floor on the secondman's side in No.2 cab.
