Carl and Sofy Looker joined me today on site. They started scraping loose paint off the inside of the engine compartment, then washing areas with White Spirit and very soapy water, to see which shifted the accumulated oil film and carbon soot better. The best combination seemed to be White Sprit first, followed by the soapy water. They washed off the areas they'd done with fresh water, so we'll see next time we're there whether those areas need any more cleaning.

I glossed the interior of the new cab plating in No.2 cab, after having undercoated it last time, did more painting along the Thin Man's passage and fixed three warning signs to the electrical cubicle doors. A selection of photos taken by Carl and me show how we got on and how the inside of 50030 is looking these days. All this preparation is for the big day next year when we lift the exisitng power unit out of 50030 and prepare to replace it with our overhauled spare power unit from 50008 Thunderer.
