Instrument lighting in the no 1 end cab of 50030 illuminated for the first time in nearly 32 years.

Richard and I managed to attend for two weekends in a row and together we achieved quite a bit. The new headcode box lamp frame was fitted in No.1 cab, all the internal bulkhead lights had new lamps fitted and the instrument lights in No.1 cab. We were happy with the tests of the lighting circuits at 24v to put the full 110v into them through the shore supply socket today, via Richard's transformer and rectifier. This allowed us to have the internal lighting, the instrument lights in No.1 cab, one side of the headcode box and one of the exterior marker lights powered for the first time since 1992. During testing of the lighting circuits, we discovered the driver's side cab light switch wasn't working (the same thing happened in No.2 cab), so it was changed for a spare. Unfortunately, the cab light that side still wouldn't work, so further investigation is required. We know the driver's side tail light doesn't work, we can't get power to the headlight inverter, and why only half the headcode box is illuminated requires investigation. The exterior condition of 50030 doesn't look all that great right now. However as described in some of the previous posts in our news reports we had a lot of welding done to the bodyshell of this locomotive over the past year or so to make sure it is watertight and we have higher priorities at present than painting it.
